Swiss Village Faces Evacuation Amid Landslide Threat

Published: 2024-11-17

The Swiss village of Brienz is facing another evacuation due to the imminent threat of a massive landslide.

Approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of debris are moving towards the village at a rate of up to 35 centimeters per day.

Residents have been ordered to leave by Sunday, with many relocating to holiday homes or nearby hotels.

This marks the second evacuation in less than two years, following a similar threat in 2023. The local government is considering a permanent relocation plan, as the risk of a catastrophic landslide remains high.

The village is now under strict surveillance to prevent unauthorized access, with fines imposed for violations.
