Landslide Disrupts Swiss Road, Cleared Safely

A landslide on Friday evening caused significant disruption along the Seestrasse in Weggis, Switzerland, necessitating a temporary road closure between Brunnen and Küssnacht SZ.

A precarious 20-ton rock block was successfully detonated on Saturday evening, allowing the road to reopen for one-way traffic.

Geologist Klaus Louis, overseeing the operation, confirmed that the risk of further landslides is minimal due to the dry weather.

However, an additional 200 to 300 cubic meters of loose material will need to be cleared in the coming week using specialized equipment.

The landslide, which dislodged approximately 30 cubic meters of debris, was attributed to a combination of early frost, heavy snowfall, rapid snowmelt, and recent heavy rains.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
