Landslides Isolate Saastal After Heavy Rains

Severe rainfall in the Swiss region of Wallis has led to significant landslides, cutting off the Saastal valley from the outside world.

The main road between Stalden and Saas-Almagell has been closed due to a mudslide that swept away a bridge near Eisten.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and local authorities had prepared for the heavy rains by positioning machinery near vulnerable streams.

However, the Lehanbach and Triftbach rivers have overflowed, causing further disruptions.

The Cantonal Leadership Organization has issued warnings for potential flooding and landslides in several regions, urging residents to avoid travel and stay clear of riverbanks.

This area has already suffered from severe weather earlier this year, with damages estimated at 125 million Swiss Francs.
