The city of Lucerne is on high alert due to the imminent threat of a rockslide near Schlössli Schönegg on the Gütsch hill.
A massive, unstable rock formation, approximately 5,500 cubic meters in size, poses a significant risk to four residential buildings and the railway tracks leading to Lucerne's main station.
In response, the city has implemented an automatic monitoring and alarm system to ensure public safety.
Residents have been advised to limit their use of certain parts of their homes, and in the event of an alarm, the SBB railway line will be automatically closed.
The city has warned that the rock could fall without much warning, potentially causing enormous damage.
This situation echoes a similar threat from 2016, when a rockslide risk led to the evacuation of 125 residents.
