Violence Against Swiss Sex Workers Exposed

A recent study by the Swiss organization ProCoRe reveals the alarming prevalence of violence and discrimination faced by sex workers in Switzerland.

The study, which surveyed 24 women and trans women, highlights that many have experienced violence at work, including a disturbing practice known as "stealthing," where clients secretly remove condoms during intercourse.

This act, now recognized as a criminal offense in Swiss sexual law, is a form of sexual violence reported by 70.8% of participants.

Despite the legality of sex work in Switzerland, many sex workers avoid police involvement due to fears of discrimination and immigration-related repercussions.

The study also notes that sex workers often face multiple forms of discrimination based on gender, origin, and occupation, leading to significant psychological distress.

ProCoRe calls for increased awareness and preventive measures to protect sex workers from violence and stigma, emphasizing the need for a supportive legal framework that allows victims to report crimes without fear of legal consequences.
