Swiss Deportation Rates Rise in 2023

In 2023, Swiss authorities recorded 2,250 enforceable deportations of criminal foreigners, marking a significant step in the country's immigration enforcement.

By the end of 2023, 68% of these deportations were executed, with the rate expected to rise to 73% by mid-2024 as more deportations are completed.

The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) reported that about one-third of the deportations were voluntary, while the remaining two-thirds were carried out under compulsion.

The majority of those deported were men, with a significant number originating from EU/EFTA countries, particularly Romania, France, and Italy.

Deportees from non-EU countries mainly came from Albania, Algeria, and Morocco.

This data marks the first time the Swiss government has publicly shared such detailed statistics on deportations, reflecting ongoing efforts to manage immigration effectively.
