Switzerland has approved its first financial compensation for a COVID-19 vaccine injury.
The recipient will receive 12,500 Swiss Francs as a form of moral compensation and an additional 1,360 Francs for lost earnings.
This decision marks a significant moment in the country's vaccination history, which began in December 2020 with the largest immunization campaign ever conducted in Switzerland.
The Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI) confirmed the approval, emphasizing that compensation requires proof of a causal link between the vaccine and health issues.
So far, 320 applications for compensation have been submitted, with 50 still under review.
The EDI stresses that not all claims will result in payment, as each case must meet strict criteria.
