The Swiss Parliament has approved a controversial increase in the minimum health insurance deductible, marking the first adjustment in 20 years.
Patients currently paying a minimum of 300 Swiss francs annually will face higher costs, though the exact amount remains undecided.
Proponents argue this change promotes personal responsibility and cost awareness, while critics warn it disproportionately affects the chronically ill, elderly, and low-income groups.
The motion, led by SVP's Diana Gutjahr, passed despite opposition from left-wing parties.
Health Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, who personally opposed the measure, must now draft implementation plans.
The decision reflects growing concerns over rising healthcare costs, which have tripled since 1996.
