Zürich's Knabenschiessen: Tradition Meets Thrill

Published: 2024-09-06

The Knabenschiessen, Zurich's oldest folk festival, is set to take place from September 7 to 9, 2024, at the Albisgüetli.

This annual event, which dates back to 1656, originally aimed to hone the shooting skills of young Zurich boys.

Today, it welcomes all youths aged 13 to 17, including girls since 1991, to participate in a shooting competition.

The festival attracts over 800,000 visitors each year, offering a vibrant mix of rides, food stalls, and cultural activities.

Participants in the shooting contest vie for the title of Schützenkönig or Schützenkönigin, with prizes including 5,000 Swiss Francs and a helicopter ride.

The event also features a variety of entertainment options, from thrilling rides like the Freefall Tower to more serene experiences on the Swisswheel.

Visitors are encouraged to use public transport due to limited parking and traffic restrictions around the venue.
