Zürich is pushing forward with its ambitious plan to create a 130-kilometer network of bike priority routes by 2031. The initiative, which aims to enhance safety and visibility for cyclists, has seen only four kilometers completed so far.
Despite the approval of a 120 million Swiss Franc budget in 2015, progress has been slow, with only 14.3 million spent by the end of 2023. The next phase, a route from Altstetten to the main train station, is stalled due to legal challenges over parking space removals.
Cyclists have expressed dissatisfaction with the current routes, citing safety concerns and the presence of cars.
The city remains committed to the project, emphasizing the importance of bike routes for urban mobility.
