Zermatt, a popular tourist destination, is considering implementing a new fee for day visitors who do not stay overnight.
The proposed fee of twelve Swiss Francs aims to encourage longer stays and support local sustainability projects through a fund called the "Green Tag.
" This initiative is a response to growing concerns among locals about the impact of mass tourism.
Exceptions to the fee would include suppliers, craftsmen, and those visiting friends or family in Zermatt.
The idea is still under discussion, with no final decision made yet.
Similar measures are being considered in other Swiss tourist spots, such as Lauterbrunnen, where a day pass fee of five to ten Francs is being debated.
