Switzerland Faces Unpredictable September Weather

Published: 2024-09-07

Switzerland is experiencing a rollercoaster of weather patterns this September, with temperatures soaring to record highs and sudden thunderstorms sweeping across the country.

On September 1st, Schaffhausen recorded its hottest September day ever at 32 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record from 1962. Similar heatwaves were noted in Chur and Aarau, where temperatures also reached 32 degrees.

However, the warm spell is not expected to last, as thunderstorms are predicted to bring cooler weather.

The Swiss Alps play a significant role in these weather changes, as moist air from the Atlantic is pushed upwards, leading to cloud formation and eventual storms.

As the month progresses, temperatures are expected to drop, signaling the arrival of autumn with cooler days and potential snowfall in higher altitudes.
