Switzerland Faces Extreme Weather on National Day

Published: 2024-07-31

On August 1st, Switzerland faces a mix of extreme weather conditions as the National Day celebrations approach.

While the western regions, including Lausanne and Geneva, are under a heat warning with temperatures soaring up to 35 degrees Celsius and high humidity, the central and inner parts of the country are bracing for severe thunderstorms.

Meteorologists have issued a significant thunderstorm warning (Level 3 out of 5) for areas like Solothurn and parts of the Jura, predicting heavy rain, lightning strikes, and potential flooding.

As festivities unfold, outdoor activities may be disrupted by sudden downpours and strong winds.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat, while also preparing for possible storm impacts.

The unpredictable weather is expected to continue into Friday, making it essential for people to stay informed and safe during the celebrations.
