The Swiss Federal Council is taking decisive action against excessive vehicle noise, particularly targeting drivers who intentionally create disturbances.
Starting January 1, 2025, generating unnecessary noise with exhaust systems, such as the "Pop and Bang" sounds popular in the tuning scene, will be explicitly prohibited.
This includes noise from backfires, sport mode settings, unnecessary gear shifting, and abrupt throttle releases.
Violators could face fines up to 10,000 Swiss Francs.
Additionally, fines for idling engines will increase from 60 to 80 Francs.
While a pilot project for noise cameras in Geneva was successful, national implementation faces legal challenges, prompting further feasibility studies.
