Kilian Wenger Retires from Wrestling

Published: 2024-08-02

Kilian Wenger, the Swiss wrestling champion known for his remarkable victory at the 2010 Eidgenössisches Schwingfest in Frauenfeld, has announced his retirement at the age of 34. Wenger, who won all eight of his matches that day, has been a significant figure in the sport, accumulating 110 wreaths throughout his career.

However, ongoing back problems have hindered his performance in recent years, leading to his decision to step away from the sport.

Despite his struggles, Wenger's impact on Swiss wrestling has been profound, helping to elevate its popularity beyond its traditional roots.

He expressed that the decision to retire was difficult but necessary, as he could no longer compete at the level he desired.

Wenger plans to remain involved in the sport in some capacity while pursuing further professional development.
