The Swiss printing company Abächerli Media AG has declared bankruptcy, resulting in the loss of 30 jobs.
The collapse stems from a catastrophic IT error in June 2022, when an external IT provider accidentally deleted all company data and backups.
Efforts to recover the data failed, causing damages exceeding 750,000 Swiss francs.
Already struggling in a shrinking printing market, the company could not recover financially, and its bank terminated contracts in March 2025, forcing insolvency.
Experts highlight the importance of robust backup systems and caution against over-reliance on outsourced IT services.
The incident underscores the devastating impact of IT failures on businesses.
