A fire broke out at the Eigergletscher station in Lauterbrunnen on Tuesday morning, causing the suspension of the Jungfraubahn train service between Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch for the entire day.

The blaze, which engulfed a backup generator, was reported to the Bern cantonal police around 6 a.

m.

Firefighters from Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, and the Jungfraubahnen's own fire brigade managed to control the fire, although extinguishing efforts continued into the afternoon.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and an ambulance was on standby as a precaution.

The incident disrupted travel plans for hundreds of tourists aiming to visit the "Top of Europe," with many being redirected to alternative attractions like Harder Kulm and Grütschalp-Mürren.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are ongoing, with hopes to resume train services by Wednesday.
