Two Vietnamese climbers faced life-threatening conditions on the Matterhorn due to extreme weather.
On Monday morning, a distress call was received by rescuers in Zermatt, reporting the climbers' perilous situation.
The severe weather made aerial or ground rescue impossible initially.
By 1 PM, three rescue specialists decided to ascend the mountain on foot, braving snow, wind, ice, fog, and cold.
The climbers, inadequately equipped with light shoes and thin clothing, were found at over 3500 meters, severely hypothermic.
Due to the harsh conditions, they couldn't be airlifted immediately.
The rescuers had to rappel down to the climbers and use a pulley system to bring them back to the normal route.
After a challenging descent to the Hörnlihütte winter camp, a helicopter was finally able to evacuate them at 2 AM.
The climbers are expected to receive a bill for the rescue operation, as is customary.
