Balcony Collapse in Lucerne Injures Two

Published: 2024-08-16

On Thursday evening, a balcony collapsed on Kellerstrasse in Lucerne, injuring a 56-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM, and both individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The balcony, located on the first floor, suddenly gave way, causing the pair to fall into the courtyard below.

Fortunately, parked mopeds cushioned their fall, preventing more severe injuries.

The building, recently acquired by Vatar Immobilien AG, had been a concern for residents due to visible cracks and disuse of other balconies.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, and residents have been advised not to use their balconies until further notice.

The police and public prosecutor's office are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure safety and accountability.
