Swiss energy company Axpo is under fire for its bonus culture, with some traders reportedly receiving up to nine million Swiss francs in bonuses.
This comes as the company, owned by Swiss cantons, has faced criticism for shifting financial risks onto taxpayers.
CEO Christoph Brand received a total of 1.8 million francs, including a 649,000-franc bonus, while over 50 employees reportedly earned bonuses exceeding one million francs in 2023. Politicians, including FDP National Councilor Matthias Jauslin, are calling for the dismissal of the CEO and board.
Critics argue that the high bonuses encourage traders to take excessive risks, potentially burdening taxpayers.
Axpo has declined to disclose specific bonus figures, citing competitive concerns.
