Switzerland's Parliament has approved a controversial bailout for struggling steel and aluminum producers.
From 2025 to 2028, these companies will receive discounts on electricity grid fees, funded by a 0.2% increase in fees for other consumers.
The move, costing an estimated 37 million Swiss francs, aims to support four key firms employing around 2,000 workers.
Proponents argue the bailout ensures strategic supply security and promotes recycling, while critics highlight its constitutional and economic concerns.
The plan requires companies to meet conditions like a temporary dividend ban and repayment guarantees if they close prematurely.
The debate underscores tensions between industrial policy and market principles.
