In Zürich-Wiedikon, over 100 residents are being forced to leave their homes due to a planned renovation of aging buildings in the Döltschihalde area.
The properties, built in 1970, are over 50 years old and require significant repairs, according to the owner.
However, the decision has sparked outrage, as many tenants, including families and elderly individuals, fear they will not find affordable alternatives.
While some buildings in the area are unaffected due to better maintenance by a different owner, the affected tenants face uncertainty about returning after the renovations, as future rents remain unclear.
The evictions, set for March 2025, have left many feeling betrayed, especially since the owner previously lived in the same community.
"We may have to leave the city, our long-time home," one tenant lamented.
