Swiss Wages Stagnate Despite Growth

Published: 2024-12-16

Swiss wage negotiations for 2025 have left many workers disappointed, as real wages remain stagnant despite economic growth.

Over the past three years, real wages have declined, and the latest talks have done little to reverse this trend, according to unions like Travail Suisse.

Key sectors such as healthcare, retail, and hospitality face significant wage gaps, with some workers seeing a nearly 4% shortfall.

While industries with collective agreements, like construction and public transport, managed to maintain or slightly improve wages, the overall picture remains bleak.

Rising healthcare premiums and stalled negotiations in some sectors exacerbate the issue, leaving many employees with less purchasing power.

Unions are calling for fairer distribution of productivity gains to address wage inequality and ensure workers benefit from economic progress.
