Swiss Unemployment Hits 3%

Unemployment in Switzerland has risen to 3% in January 2025, marking a significant increase from the previous year.

According to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), the number of unemployed individuals grew by 5,480 compared to December, reaching a total of 135,773. Youth and older workers have been particularly affected, with youth unemployment rising by 19.4% and unemployment among those aged 50-64 increasing by 17% year-on-year.

Despite the rise in unemployment, over 42,000 job vacancies were reported, a 38.2% increase from the previous month.

Additionally, the number of job seekers has climbed to 212,803, reflecting a 16.8% rise compared to January 2024. The data highlights a complex labor market with growing unemployment alongside a surge in open positions.
