Switzerland's social aid rate has dropped to a record low of 2.8% in 2023, the lowest since tracking began in 2005, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
This decline is attributed to a strong job market, with 7,100 fewer people relying on aid compared to the previous year.
However, organizations like Caritas caution that this does not necessarily mean poverty is decreasing, as many eligible individuals avoid seeking aid due to stigma.
Urban areas still report higher aid rates, with cities exceeding the national average.
Meanwhile, the asylum sector has seen a rise in aid dependency, linked to increased asylum applications.
Despite the overall decline, challenges remain for vulnerable groups, including refugees and low-income families.
