Published: 2024-10-05

The Swiss Cheese Awards recently celebrated the finest cheeses in Switzerland, with three winners emerging from the competition.

Held in Lugano, the event brought together 150 experts, journalists, and consumers from various countries to determine the best cheeses.

The winners included two cheeses from the canton of Vaud and one from the German-speaking part of the canton of Fribourg.

Le Brigand du Jorat from the Saint-Cierges cheese factory in Vaud won in the semi-hard cheese category.

The Vacherin Mont d’Or AOP from the André SA cheese factory in Romanel-sur-Morges, also in Vaud, triumphed in the soft & fresh cheese category.

In the extra-hard & hard cheese category, Le Gruyère AOP from the Lanthen cheese factory in Fribourg took the top spot.

This year, a record 1,127 cheeses were evaluated across 32 categories.

The awards, held biennially, will take place in Fribourg in 2026, a region renowned for its famous cheeses and culinary culture.
