SRF Criticized for RKI Coverage Omission

Published: 2025-04-05

In March 2024, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) released its COVID-19 protocols, revealing that its decisions often aligned with political directives during the pandemic.

For instance, in February 2022, the RKI proposed lowering Germany's infection risk level, but the Health Ministry rejected the suggestion, prompting the RKI to adjust its stance.

These revelations sparked significant public interest.

However, Swiss broadcaster SRF chose not to report on the matter, leading to criticism from the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (UBI).

The UBI deemed SRF's lack of coverage a violation of programming rights, arguing that the information was crucial for Swiss audiences, given their reliance on RKI data during the pandemic.

The omission was also criticized for creating an imbalance in pandemic reporting.
