Protests Erupt Over Swiss Nuclear Waste Site

In Switzerland, the National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Nagra) has submitted an application for a nuclear waste repository in Stadel, Zurich.

This proposal has sparked protests, with around 80 demonstrators gathering in Bülach to voice their opposition.

The planned facility aims to store radioactive waste 900 meters underground for up to a million years.

While some locals, like Rita Schrimer of the Climate Seniors, argue against passing the problem to future generations, others, such as members of the "Stadelaktiv" group, reluctantly support the project if it ensures safety.

The application is a significant step in a process that could take decades, with construction not expected before 2045. The debate continues as the Swiss government and local authorities review the proposal, with some advocating for a referendum to decide the project's fate.
