A significant power outage has struck several municipalities in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, leaving areas like Muttenz, Reinach, Münchenstein, and Arlesheim in the dark.

The outage, which began on Monday evening, was caused by a technical defect at the Primeo Energie substation in Münchenstein, leading to smoke and the involvement of local fire services.

The disruption has affected public transport, with tram lines 10 and 11 partially suspended and replacement buses in operation.

Residents have been advised to avoid using elevators until power is restored.

Primeo Energie is working urgently to resolve the issue, though their headquarters and website are also impacted, limiting communication.
