In the early hours of Saturday, the city of Lucerne experienced a significant power outage, leaving several districts in darkness.

The blackout began around 12:30 AM and affected areas on the left lakeside, including neighborhoods south of Lucerne's city center, such as Tribschen, Steghof, and Hubelmatt.

Residents reported seeing candles on balconies as they coped with the unexpected outage.

Energy provider Energie Wasser Luzern (EWL) was unable to immediately identify the cause but worked urgently to restore power.

By 5:20 AM, the electricity supply was reinstated, and authorities assured the public that there was no danger.

During the outage, the Alertswiss app advised residents to stay put and avoid using elevators.
