FIFA's Penthouse Perk Controversy

Published: 2024-09-22

FIFA is under scrutiny for covering the rent of a luxurious penthouse in Zug for its President, Gianni Infantino, despite his substantial annual salary of over four million Swiss Francs.

The penthouse, costing 7,950 Francs per month, is reportedly paid for by FIFA, as revealed by a rental contract obtained by the "SonntagsBlick".

This revelation raises eyebrows as Infantino's salary saw a 15% increase last year, reaching 4.13 million Francs, yet the housing benefit was not disclosed in FIFA's annual report.

FIFA defends the arrangement, stating that all of Infantino's compensations are contractually agreed upon and determined by an independent committee, aligning with standard executive packages in Switzerland.
