The Basler Fasnacht 2025 has kicked off with its iconic Morgenstreich, plunging the city into a mix of tradition and bold social commentary.
This year’s motto, "Syg wie de wottsch" (Be as you want), celebrates self-expression and touches on gender themes, encouraging participants to embrace creativity without boundaries.
The event’s famous Cortège parade featured 11,485 participants in 442 groups, showcasing satirical and poignant themes like global politics, war, and the Eurovision Song Contest, which Basel will host in May.
Despite the somber undertones of some subjects, the festival also honored local pride, including tributes to artist Jean Tinguely and footballer Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Fasnacht remains a unique blend of reflection and revelry, offering moments of joy and introspection to thousands of attendees.
