Tiger mosquitoes, known for their painful bites and potential to spread diseases, have been found in Zurich for the first time since 2019, outside the main bus station.
Originally detected in 2016, the city has been actively monitoring and controlling their spread using biological methods.
Despite efforts, eggs and mosquitoes were recently discovered in the Industrie and Wipkingen districts.
The public is urged to help by eliminating standing water, a breeding ground for these mosquitoes, and reporting sightings via the "Züri wie neu" app.
While the risk of disease transmission remains low, the city emphasizes the importance of early detection and control to prevent further spread.
