Stadler Faces Aluminum Supply Crisis

Published: 2024-10-11

Stadler Rail, a prominent train manufacturer, has announced the implementation of short-time work for 119 employees at its Altenrhein plant in Switzerland.

This decision comes in response to significant supply chain disruptions caused by a severe flood in June 2024, which halted production at their aluminum supplier, Constellium, located in the Wallis region.

The aluminum profiles from Constellium are crucial for constructing the train car bodies at Stadler's facility.

Out of 1,200 tons of aluminum profiles stored, 800 tons were damaged and require remelting.

Stadler is actively assessing the impact on current orders and is in close communication with Constellium to resolve the supply issues.

The company anticipates that production might resume by the end of October.

Stadler employs over 1,700 people in its Altenrhein and St.

Margrethen plants, with a total of 5,300 employees across Switzerland.
