An 81-year-old woman from Meilen, Switzerland, thwarted a sophisticated phone scam with the help of local police.

The scammers, posing as police officers and bank officials, tried to convince her to withdraw large sums of money and convert them into gold bars for collection.

Sensing the fraud, the woman contacted the Zurich Cantonal Police while maintaining communication with the scammers.

She set a trap by leaving a decoy package outside her home.

Police arrested a 54-year-old Kosovar and a 28-year-old Swiss man after observing the package's handover.

Thanks to the woman’s vigilance, no financial loss occurred.
