The political landscape in Schaffhausen is heating up as the Federal Supreme Court invalidated the election of SP politician Simon Stocker to the Council of States due to residency issues.
This decision has triggered a new election, giving the FDP an opportunity to reclaim the seat for the conservative side.
Severin Brüngger, a 46-year-old FDP politician, pilot, and former handball athlete, has been nominated as their candidate.
Brüngger is described as a committed liberal-conservative and is eager to win the seat.
The first round of the new election is scheduled for June 29. It remains unclear if Thomas Minder, the independent politician Stocker defeated in 2023, will run again.
