Quarter of Swiss Drive Under Influence

A recent report reveals that a quarter of Swiss drivers operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, with nighttime being particularly concerning.

The Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) highlighted that alcohol is responsible for nearly 12% of accidents causing personal injury.

In the past year alone, 506 individuals were seriously injured and 31 were killed in alcohol-related road incidents.

Despite efforts, the situation has not improved over the last decade.

A 2023 survey conducted with 14 police corps found that 0.4% of drivers exceed the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.5 per mille.

Younger drivers under 30 tend to be more responsible compared to older ones.

The BFU warns that even a single drink can impair driving ability, reducing attention and vision while increasing reaction time, often without the driver's awareness.
