After 200 days in office, Swiss Federal Councillor Beat Jans faces intense criticism from the Swiss People's Party (SVP) regarding his handling of asylum policies.
At a recent media conference in Giffers, SVP President Marcel Dettling accused Jans of failing to deliver on his promises, labeling him an "announcement minister" and claiming that his 24-hour asylum procedures often take much longer in practice.
Despite initial popularity, Jans is now under fire for not effectively addressing rising asylum numbers, particularly from Maghreb countries.
The SVP's critique is part of a broader strategy to challenge Jans's credibility, as they argue that his policies have not resulted in tangible improvements.
Meanwhile, Jans's supporters, including SP President Cédric Wermuth, defend his approach, emphasizing the need for humane migration policies and good relations with Europe.
