Avalanche Drill Turns Real in Switzerland

During a routine avalanche training course in Graubünden, Switzerland, a real-life emergency unfolded when a 30-meter-wide snow slab broke loose, burying three participants.

The group, consisting of 40 people, quickly sprang into action, utilizing their training to rescue the buried individuals within ten minutes.

The Swiss Air-Rescue (Rega) was alerted via an app, and multiple rescue teams, including helicopter crews and avalanche dog handlers, were dispatched.

Fortunately, the quick response and use of avalanche transceivers ensured that the three individuals were largely unharmed.

One person was taken to the hospital for a check-up, while the rest of the rescue resources were stood down.

This incident underscores the importance of proper avalanche safety equipment and swift action in increasing survival chances.
