Wolf Culled in Uri After Sheep Attacks

Published: 2024-10-17

In the canton of Uri, Switzerland, authorities have taken decisive action against a wolf responsible for the deaths of nine sheep in the Urserental region.

The wolf was shot by wildlife officials after the canton issued a permit for its culling, following the attack on October 9th.

This decision was made as the damage threshold, set at six livestock, was surpassed, prompting concerns of further attacks.

The wolf's territory spanned the border area between the municipalities of Hospental and Realp.

The carcass has been sent to Bern for pathological examination, with genetic analysis to be conducted at the University of Lausanne.

The culling permit was valid for 60 days or until livestock were no longer grazing in the affected area.
