Switzerland's population has reached a significant milestone, surpassing nine million residents for the first time.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, as of the end of June 2024, the country recorded 9,002,763 inhabitants.
This marks a historic moment since the first census in 1850, which counted only 2.4 million people.
The growth from eight to nine million took 12 years, similar to the period between the fifth and sixth million.
The population includes 6.56 million Swiss citizens and 2.44 million foreigners, with a diverse age distribution across various regions.
This milestone reflects Switzerland's dynamic demographic changes over the years.
