A Swiss Boeing 777, en route from Tokyo to Zurich, made an emergency landing in Astana, Kazakhstan, due to a medical emergency involving a passenger.
After landing, the aircraft veered off the runway during a 180-degree turn, with its nose wheel getting stuck in the grass.
The incident occurred because one of the taxiways was closed, necessitating the turn on the runway.
All 319 passengers are safe, and the affected passenger received medical attention.
The aircraft was towed back to the runway and is currently under inspection for potential damage.
Swiss is working to rebook passengers or send a replacement aircraft from Zurich, as options in Astana are limited.
The incident led to a temporary closure of Astana Airport for two hours.
