A man entered the rhino enclosure at Basel Zoo and attempted to attack a male rhino named Puri.

Despite coming into contact with the animal, neither the man nor the rhino was injured.

The incident occurred on Monday, and the man had already left the enclosure by the time police arrived.

Zoo staff managed to convince him to move to a safe area.

Authorities described the individual as being in a "difficult life situation" but did not disclose further details.

The motive for the intrusion remains unclear.
