As the summer holidays come to an end, the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) warns of exceptionally high traffic volumes on Swiss roads, particularly towards the Gotthard Tunnel.

Long traffic jams are expected, with delays of up to two hours reported already.

The busiest days are anticipated from July 31 to August 5, coinciding with Switzerland's National Day.

Travelers are advised to avoid peak times, especially on weekends, and consider alternative routes like the San Bernardino route, which is currently limited to 60 km/h due to weather-related issues.

With the influx of holidaymakers returning home, the situation is likely to worsen, leading to significant wait times and congestion.
