Heatwave Hits Southern Switzerland

Published: 2024-07-28

A heatwave is sweeping across southern Switzerland, with temperatures expected to reach between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius in the lowlands.

The Federal Office of Meteorology has issued a level 3 heat warning due to the high temperatures and humidity levels, which are forecasted to be between 40 and 50 percent.

This heatwave is attributed to a large high-pressure system over North Africa and the central Mediterranean.

Residents are advised to avoid strenuous activities, stay hydrated, and protect themselves from direct sunlight.

While the heat is expected to last until at least Thursday evening, thunderstorms may bring some relief by lowering temperatures.

The northern Alps may also experience rising temperatures, with heat warnings likely to be issued soon.
