A tragic accident in Wengen, Switzerland, has claimed the life of a woman after severe weather conditions caused tree branches to fall.

On Friday morning, the woman was struck by falling tree parts while walking in the village.

Despite being airlifted to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

The incident has prompted the closure of the affected road section as investigations by the Bernese Cantonal Police and the regional public prosecutor's office are underway.

This unfortunate event marks the first fatality linked to the recent storms in the region, which have also caused disruptions in neighboring Austria, leading to road closures and event cancellations.
