The Zurich Higher Court has increased the sentence of former Schwyz SVP cantonal councilor Bernhard Diethelm to nine months of conditional imprisonment for assault.

Diethelm was found guilty of attacking and choking a sex worker during a pre-arranged encounter in Zurich.

The court upheld the previous ruling but added an extra month to the sentence.

While Diethelm was acquitted of endangering life, he faces additional fines and a conditional monetary penalty.

The case, which drew public attention, saw both the prosecution and defense appealing the initial verdict.

Diethelm, known for his opposition to COVID-19 measures, expressed regret for his actions but denied any intent to harm.
