Capri-Sun, the popular beverage brand, is planning to reintroduce plastic straws in Switzerland, citing customer dissatisfaction with the current paper alternatives.

CEO Roland Weening expressed that the paper straws, introduced due to environmental concerns, have been a source of frustration for both customers and the company.

While the EU has banned plastic straws since 2021, Switzerland does not have such restrictions, allowing competitors to offer similar products with plastic straws at a lower price.

Despite the move back to plastic, Capri-Sun is also focusing on sustainability by introducing recyclable polypropylene pouches.

The company has faced criticism over its high sugar content, leading to a reduction in sugar levels in various markets.

Weening argues that moderation is key and that Capri-Sun should not be singled out when other sugary products remain prevalent.
