A retired businessman from Bern is facing trial for evading taxes amounting to 16 million Swiss Francs.
Over two decades, he managed to deceive authorities by hiding his wealth, despite earning millions from his temporary employment agency.
The authorities discovered luxury goods and weapons in his possession, including luxury watches, handbags, and gold bars.
The man, who had been receiving social benefits by posing as impoverished, attempted to settle his tax debts with a minimal payment, a deal that was eventually blocked.
Investigations revealed he had transferred millions to Liechtenstein and purchased significant amounts of gold.
Both he and his ex-wife are charged with fraud and other offenses, with the court's verdict expected soon.
